The 45-70 was popular from 1873 on.It is designed so that the first driving band fits into the bore, making this a "bore riding" bullet. The bullet stops on the rifling on the second ring. It works in my Pedersoli Sharps, that has a .520" bore, but the Shiloh has a .532" bore. You might get some Tempilac and put it on the inside of the case neck prior to annealing. You cannot accurately anneal brass by sight. The thing is, once you over-anneal a piece of brass, it's destroyed. There's no getting it back. bpcrshooter62.I like Shilohs better, but C.Sharps are also great gunmakers. I like their 1885s better than I like their other offerings. And as for "cast" Shiloh uses 4140 steel, I don't feel it's anywhere near likely to fail.
